It's the Big Apple, the city that never sleeps, the capital of the world. New York City is unarguably one of the most renowned cities in the world and it certainly doesn't run out of things to be famous for. It is recognized as one of the global centers of finance, fashion, culture, entertainment, education and politics. Also in New York City are some of the most famous landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building.
Not only is New York City the largest city in the United States in terms of population, it's also one of the most ethnically diverse.
About 36 percent of residents in New York City are born outside the country. Since the 19th century, the city has received immigrants from other parts of world. Today, some of the ethnic groups in New York City are from the Dominican Republic, China, Pakistan, Colombia, Jamaica, Ecuador, and Haiti.
Wall Street in Lower Manhattan of New York City is known as an international financial stronghold with several stock exchanges headquartered there including the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. The headquarters of some of the largest corporations in media and advertising are also located in New York City. With all that's constantly going on, no wonder this city finds it at all hard to sleep.
